LAMPWORKING WITH MURANO GLASS Lampworking allows the making of a great variety of shapes, without having to return it to the melting pot for its fusion: lamp working is the softening of glass rod and tubing by heating it in the flame of a blow lamp. |
|||||
Course on beads making The softened glass
is formed into a finished piece by manipulating it by hand and shaping
it with hand tools. In this hands-on introductory week-long class, we
will have an overview of lampworking skills and feature surface decoration.
Various techniques will be demonstrated and discussed including millefiori
powdering, raking, canetwist and metal inclusion. At the end of the day
the work will be joined with leather, string or metal into beautiful jewelry.
Basic information about glass, tools and studio set-up is also covered.
Students are encouraged to experiment.

Each phase of the process is preceded by an introduction to the properties of the material and its various states in the kiln (daily progression).
